Half Moon Lookout GWNF 12.6.08 : Two hearty Michiganders on a beautiful winter hike! Drew wanted to scout out this trail to lead a hike here in the future. We thought it was only going to be 11.6 miles but then mid-hike noticed a typo in the guide book that it was actually 13.8 miles. The weather was very chilly and windy - at least 32 degrees or lower, based on all the ice we saw. Speaking of ice, I slipped on a small patch and landed in half splits. Hurt my knee a bit, but I can still walk. When we got to the Halfmoon Lookout we could only stay for about a minute because of the biting wind and cold. Still, the hike was wonderful and the scenery gorgeous!

North Fork Mountain WV backpack 09.11-12.2008 : A grueling (for me) 24-mile backpack to West Virginia's North Fork Mountain in the Mononghela National Forest. I had to bail around mile 18 due to a bad blister on my right foot. Drew, Dottie, Wil and Tom continued on. Paul escorted me down the Redmond Trail and then walked five miles to my car to come pick me up, but unfortunately my car battery was dead. Back on the mountain, Dottie got separated from the group, Drew, Wil and Tom took a wrong turn at the Landis Trail because of a tree blow-down. For me, Paul and Dottie got someone to jump start my car and then came to pick me up and then we set off to search for Drew, Wil and Tom, but couldn't find them. Turns out they got to the bottom of Landis Trail, looked around for us, and couldn't find us either so set off home in Drew's car. I dropped off Dottie and Paul at Dottie's car and then followed them to a restaurant for dinner. We all made it back home to DC safe and sound.
